Report from the search: As week two of the job search winds down I'm finding I can learn a thing or two during this chapter. Applying directly to open roles is like throwing a bottle in the ocean at this point. I've reached out to my network and the response has been tremendous. Even if they don't have an open role they have offered to help and have connected me to leads. For that I am grateful.
I've also been proactively reaching out to people leaders at companies I find interesting outside of my network. Even if nothing is posted I'm just trying to get on as many people's radars as possible.
While I have received some interaction I was surprised by how few have responded. They know what it's like out there and a simple "Thank you, but we don't have anything at the moment right now." Would go a long way. A 10 minute phone call would make my week!
I don't say this to chastise anyone, because I've been guilty of it. My long winded point is; when I land my next role I will make the time. The time to let you know I received your message, the time to send encouragement and offer my help. It's easy to get caught up when you are full steam ahead in a secure job, but just think about what it was like when you didn't have that.
*steps off soap box*
Ok, let's go!!!!!
